Excerpt of e-mail from our Sister Church contact person:

"Last Sunday our church held baptisms on the beach of Salgar, which is very close to Barranquilla.  We are happy because many persons are choosing to join our community.  We took many photos and as soon as they are developed I will send you some.  We have formed a choir for the next regional meeting, which takes place on Nov. 28.  This is a new experience for us, since all members of the church are participating in the choir.  We thank God that we now have a woman in our praise team who is a music specialist and she has been directing us.  I'll take this opportunity to tell you that our praise team is very good, which fact shows itself in the resulting prayers that we are lifting up to God that He bless this group.  We are thankful that you are supporting us."

MCC partner, Justapaz, reports on the ongoing crisis in Colombia.  Recently, six church leaders in the province of Córdoba have been murdered because of their leadership in land-rights and for opposing the violence affecting their communities.  Other pastors state their fear, but are speaking up so the global church can know of the realities.  They ask the church in the ‘North’ to pray that they may persevere in their commitment to working for God’s vision of a nonviolent Colombia, where all may live in peace with dignity. Pray also for those responsible for this violence that they may transform their lives.

The decision was made to distribute $300 towards MCC food for Sudan and $300 towards Harmony House of Kelowna Gospel Mission Society, with the remainder to be held in the general account for the annual donation towards our Global family. A decision was also made by this group not to have a Friendship Circle Christmas banquet in December this year.

Principles of Peace Gain Broader Recognition:  What if peace

held as the organizing principle for society? What if non-violent conflict resolution, rather than defence and offence, shaped national and international strategies for peace? What if military “boot camp” for soldiers focussed on intensive training in violence prevention, mediation, and reconciliation instead of physical prowess, aggression and weaponry? Mennonite Church Canada is taking an active role in promoting a culture of peace, including non-violent conflict resolution, within Canada and abroad.  For more information check: www.mennonitechurch.ca/news/releases/2009/10/Release04.htm .

Prayer Request from MC Canada: Pray that the message of Christ will continue to transcend linguistic and cultural barriers in Canada and abroad. Currently, 45 of MC Canada’s some 225 congregations are from backgrounds other than Russian or Swiss Mennonite traditions. Sunday worship services are offered in English, German, French and 12 other languages.

MC Canada's Ministry Notes: Mennonite Heritage Sunday: As the official repository of archival records for many Mennonite organizations, the Mennonite Heritage Centre is often able to provide genealogical evidence that helps Mennonites from Mexico legally enter Canada. Thank you for supporting this important ministry!
